It seems that when Uncle Tim comes to town, the kids get be to be extra daring. The cousins get to build a ramp and jump their bikes. Babies get to hang upside down. Basically, Uncle Tim's presence somehow lets them to do things that they would not normally be allowed to do. (Except maybe the up side down thing..... in Eladia's world that is right side up.)
It was perhaps in that light that Eladia decided to take her Supergirl Swing up a notch. Ever since Daddy gave her a quick demonstration at Easter, Eladia has loved to swing on her belly on the big kid swing. Normally, she lays in the swing, and pushes off a little with her swing. However, her cousins' swing hangs a little lower to the ground and Uncle Tim was present. So, Eladia just had to show off by taking a running start and diving into the swing......
.... and she nailed it.... and nailed it.... and nailed it..... and big ol' THUMP. Unbeknown to anyone, the last time Eladia had gotten up the hook from one of the chains had come off. It looked perfectly normal, until Eladia hit the swing, flopped over, and did a face plant.
That was followed by 5-10 minutes of solid crying, some more wimpers as the scrapes on her forehead were cleaned, a minute saying hi to the dogs, and a return to playing. She shot right back to the top of the swingset, and, although tentative at first, found her way down the slide at which point she was just fine.
As the night wore on, Eladia found her way back to the swing, decided to take another running start, and nailed the entry again and again........ until she got a little tired, did not let the swing completely stop, misjudged her dive, and landed flat on the ground.
Another few minutes of crying, quick hi to the dogs, and back up and down the slide. Uncle Tim was impressed.
P.S., If you have ever been surprised at how calm parents are when you see their kid take a nasty fall.... this is why.
