That's a snot of lot

So, Eladia survived her first major illness. It only took one call, and two trips to the pediatrician by Dad. So, not too much panic by the parental units. To be fair, it was two separate problems.

It really started with a week ago Monday (Jan. 25th). That morning a fever started. Around noon it was just past 100. A couple of hours later it jumped past 102. So, dad called the peds, but the decision was to wait it out overnight because there were no other symptoms. And what a wait it was. Eladia threw up her bottle, barely held down another, got through half a third with minimal throw up, and then refused the second half of a fourth before throwing that up too. Otherwise, Eladia spent the rest of the afternoon and evening lying on Daddy's chest with a blank stare. When mom got home, Dad was sent to the store to get Pedialyte even though his pants were still moist from the last vomit. Ah, parenthood!

So, the next morning Dad and baby were off to the pediatricians'. They got there eight minutes after opening, but were still twelfth in line. Eladia's fever was down a bit, and she was in good spirits (i.e., blatant ploy to make her parents look over-reactive); however, the doctor was concerned about a fever with a lack of other symptoms (possible UTI), so Eladia had to get her finger stuck for a blood draw. That did not bother her at all. In fact, the only thing that upset Eladia was when dad wouldn't let her stick the band-aid finger in her mouth (her father's genetics at work).

Overall, the blood work suggested virus, so Dad and Eladia went home to wait it out through another day. Her fever went back up to 103, and she spent more time laying on Daddy's chest with a blank, dead-to-the-world stare. Before bed that night, however, mom shared her ice cream with Eladia, and the fever was gone by the morning (true story).

Eladia's appetite had not returned. She could barely make it through a single tub of food; quite a difference through the baby who once packed away two tubs of food, some rice cereal, half of mom and dad's spinach-artichoke dip, and still wanted pieces of their entree.

The following day the sinus congestion started. There was one clear lesson here that was omitted from the parenting books; it may be a small body, but it can produce a lot of mucus. In the time it would take dad to put the first tissue in the trash, more would run down clear past Eladia's mouth. It was quite impressive.

The congestion got worse over the weekend, and cough started on Monday... which got worse Tuesday morning... so dad and Eladia rushed back to the pediatricians Tuesday morning. This time they were there right at opening, and were only eighth in line. On top of everything, the mucus kept pouring so her nose face was rather crusty, and the rushing meant breakfast was hurried so a few food crusties were mixed in. Way to show off for the mandated reporter!!!

Anyways, the cough and sinus were probably still viral, but they back things up to cause Eladia's first ear infection. Luckily, she finds the antibiotics to be very tasty. And, everything seems to be back to normal. She's her happy self again, and she is back to sucking down food right up to the edge of nausea.
